I'm using rikaichan as well, but I try to read the kanji beforehand, and If I can't I try to list the keys beforehand. What bugs me the most is the same word, which can be written in 5 different way, but always have the same pronounciation. different words with same pronunciation (homophones)is a must have. Otherwise you couldn't make puns.
Because it's terribly difficult to be funny, and especially with puns. Man I know probably more about humour than the average person, yet I'm seldom funny. Though I know a joke won't be funny before telling it, It's just that people love me for my unfunny joke, go figure. Well maybe that's because being unfunny became a running joke. The best/worst part is that it's contagious. (note that they aren't unfunny because they're obvious puns, Everyone hates obvious puns; like, everyone knows the pun can be made and desperatly hope that no one will say it out loud... and then there's this guy) And somehow this has no link to OP. sorry.
>>24 To me, English spoken by Japanese is easy to understand. Japanese people are good at conveying a clear message in few words. Often pronouns or plurals are forgotten, but for understanding, this is okay. As for pronunciation, R/L difficulty is known and doesn't cause too much of a problem.
